Ofer Shamai – true Master of Tai Chi

Ofer Shamai's art – Tai Chi for the sake of a name – is strange but powerful. It is the fullest and most well-rounded body/energy work I have come across. Most practitioners can only talk about the principles – they have not done enough guided work to properly embody them. A few – the good ones – have done the work and the principles reside in their bodies and can be utilized without resort to thinking or calculating. But the really rare ones have somehow driven the principles deeper than their bodies and into their energy so that no physical contact is required – they work on you and with you simply through their being and presence, which in some cases can be as remote as they like. Ofer has reached this stage – he has taken his art beyond the intellectual and beyond the physical and into realms of energy and spirit that most practitioners are unaware of. It is a world that utilizes all facets of ourselves – our body, our mind, our energy, our energy body, our spirit, our hidden creatures, our guardian angels, our children, our ancestors, etc. and gets them working together in magical and soulful ways. A world without delineation – without compartments – so that teaching, healing and communicating are just facts of being – they happen by themselves – naturally.

I have had the honour of attending some of Ofer's classes and was struck by the depth of his attention to his students' potential. He teaches creatively rather than “by the book” – creating an environment that seduces progress from his students by taking them beyond themselves: he shows them that their limits are as flexible as their hearts will allow. They are very lucky to have the opportunity to feast from a “living teaching” – one with enough body and soul to waken the secrets inside themselves – secrets sent into deep slumber by the normal processes of civilization.
